The C& O Canal National Historic Park is the 12th most visited national park in the country. It's the only place in the US where visitors can experience the working parts of a canal, including a newly opened aqueduct.

The park also offers more than 150 miles of scenery for runners, hikers, cyclists, and wildlife enthusiasts. History buffs love the park too! A former lock house has been turned into a museum about the canal, and guests can enjoy learning about the transportation history of Maryland. The C& O Canal and the C & O Railroad both opened in 1828, and for a long time, the canal reigned supreme.
