A new report from AARP finds that brand name medications are 18% more expensive than their generic counterparts.
Currently, there is no legislation keeping drug companies from setting high drug prices, something AARP and other advocacy organizations are working to change. For this reason, access to generic medications is important, especially for those taking several maintenance medications or low income patients.
If you are prescribed a new medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist if it is available in generic form.
