BALTIMORE — A shootout in South Baltimore has left an officer wounded and the suspect dead.

It happened Friday night in the 3400 block of S. Hanover Street.

That's where officers found 39-year-old Anthony Ferguson sitting outside a commercial building.

Police recognized Ferguson as a person of interest in a different shooting incident that occurred two days earlier.

As officers approached, Ferguson allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed at them.

After refusing orders to drop the weapon, the man exchanged gunfire with five officers leading to his death.

One officer was injured after being struck in his bullet proof. He's since been released from the hospital.

The involved officers have been identified as sergeant Timothy Copeland, detective Nicholas Wellems, and officers Brandall Mable, Nicolas Sturla, and Kevin Retamales.

A gun was recovered from Ferguson at the scene.

The entire incident was captured on police body-worn camera, which has yet to be released.
