Spontaneous hay combustion cited as preliminary cause in barn fire

CAMBRIDGE, Md. — A spontaneous combustion of hay is believed to be the cause of a barn fire that caused around $150,000 in damage in Dorchester County.

On Thursday afternoon, just before 5 p.m., Ashley Baynard called first responders to report a fire in her barn.

It took 52 firefighters two hours to get control of the flames.

No one was injured in the fire.
