ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — An Anne Arundel County Police officer was charged with theft on Thursday.

The officer is identified as PFC B. Gneiting, a three-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

It all began on October 28, five gift bags were being stored behind a desk in the Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control Center in Millersville.

Each bag carried several animal care items and included two gift cards in the amount of $50 from PetSmart and Amazon.

On November 1, an animal control staff member adopted an animal and got a gift bag that was supposed to have a gift card, but there was no gift card inside.

After realizing all of the gift cards were missing an investigation was initiated.

Records show Gneiting was temporarily assigned to the center when it reopened on October 30 and every day that followed during that week. Her work area was the desk where the gift bags were stored.

According to charging documents, surveillance video from November 1 shows Gneiting tampering with the bags while the gift cards were still inside.

She later used the gift cards.

Gneiting has been suspended without pay pending an investigation by the Office of Professional Standards.
