United Airlines announced it will offer lower "Basic Economy" fares Thursday.
Travelers won't be able to pick their seats, and will be limited to one carry-on that could fit under the seat.
It will cost extra to store a bag in the overhead bin or get a drink during the flight.
Passengers who choose the Basic Economyoption will board the plane last.
The new fares will go on sale in January for flights starting in March.
