Thousands flying out of BWI for holiday weekend

Posted

Bags are stuffed and tickets are in hand. The lines of travelers are moving along at airports like BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport across the country.

It was a smooth day for BWI Wednesday. Ticketing and security checkpoints were swift throughout the day. BWI is hoping the traffic in the airport will stay that way.

Many of the travelers were looking to beat the rush by traveling on Wednesday, and many of them had success.

“My daughter’s husband. His family lives in Napa Valley. It’s the first time for me going to where he grew up so I’m excited to be with his family,” said Edith Crist.

Crist traveled from York, Pa. and says she’s ready to kick back and relax for her trip and be with her family.

Crist, like thousands of others, is anxious to beat the rush and get through security.

Lee Gurstein is planning on walking down the aisle soon, but not before spending the holiday with his future in-laws.

“This’ll get me points. I’m getting married in March. So, I’m thankful for that. If I can make it down there.”

BWI is also accommodating the people who will need rides from the airport during the weekend. They’re offering the first hour free in their hourly garage to ease some of the congestion.
