Dog owners in Baltimore take their cues from popular culture when it comes to naming their dogs, according to a recent study from Rover.com.
The online network of pet sitters and dog walkers found that in Baltimore, TV-inspired names are up 26 percent. More specifically, names inspired by the HBO series The Wire are up 31 percent (Snoop, Bodie and Stringer Bell are popular).
And names inspired by the Netflix series House of Cards, which films in locations around Maryland, are up 18 percent.

Baltimore dog parents are also fond of naming their canines after local sports figures, including Ray Lewis and Joe Flacco, and many also name their dogs after Baltimore's own Edgar Allen Poe. The name Poe is up 26 percent, Rover.com found.
Overall, according to Rover.com's database, the top name for 2016 is Charlie for male dogs and Bella for female dogs.
In addition to Charlie, the top five male dog names in Baltimore include Max, Buddy, Cooper and Tucker.
After Bella, the top five female dog names are Lucy, Bailey, Sophie and Daisy.
