The Black-Eyed Susan gets a makeover. Sagamore Spirit is the exclusive rye whiskey of Preakness weekend for the second year in a row.

Drinks featuring the rye whiskey will be available throughout Pimlico. The main one, of course, being a unique take on the iconic Black-Eyed Susan.

Brian Treacy, President of Sagamore Spirit, walks us through how to make the Black-Eyed Rye.

1.5 oz Sagamore Spirit Rye Whiskey
3 oz of Ginger Beer
.5 oz Lime Juice
.75 oz Blackberry Simple Syrup*
8 to 10 mint leaves
Shake and double strain into a Collins glass
Top with Ginger Beer
Garnish with mint sprig and three skewered blackberries
* Blackberry Simple Syrup: Mix equal parts water, sugar, and blackberries in a pot. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes. Chill overnight and strain.
Sagamore Spirit Rye will be available at all the full bars at the Grandstand and in the Corporate Village.
If you want to check out the distillery before you head to Pimlico, tours are available every day from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.. They cost $15 per person. Tours allow guests to taste 3 different types of Sagamore Spirit Rye Whiskey and learn how the whiskey is made.
