7 Items You Should Move to the Fridge Immediately

Posted
and last updated

Our kitchen cabinets are stuffed full of goodies, but some of those items would be better kept in the refrigerator. Kristina Guerrero and dietitian Theresa Price have seven items to move from your pantry shelves, to your fridge – Right now!

1.  Almonds

Because of their healthy fat content, you should keep nuts and different seeds in the fridge.

2.  Olive Oil

This is a surprising one and the reason to keep it cold is it helps preserve the shelf life.

3.  Red Wine

Another one that will increase its shelf life up to three to five days because it doesn’t oxidize as fast in the refrigerator.

4.  Maple Syrup

Theresa Price says to keep maple syrup in your fridge because it doesn’t have any preservatives in it. You run the risk of finding a black goopy mold when you pour it over your pancakes.

5.  Ripe Bananas

Green bananas should be left on your counter until they have ripened. But once they are ripe through them in the fridge and they will last longer. Don’t worry if the peel has turned brown, the inside will still taste awesome. Bananas are more nutritious when they are ripe.

6.  Tortillas

Flour tortillas will keep twice as long if you keep them in the fridge. Refrigeration will preserve them, but make sure they are sealed tight because moisture in the bag can ruin them.

7.  Natural Peanut Butter

Natural peanut butter is best in the fridge. The healthy fats will stay active and it will prevent you from having to stir it up as often.
