BALTIMORE — KIPP Baltimore celebrated the grand opening of its new playground and outdoor learning space Monday.
The playground includes a relocation of an existing playground structure, a brand-new fitness-focused challenge course playground, upgraded seating options surrounding the playspace, landscaping, murals, and more.
Community volunteers and teachers completed the transformation on August 20.
The playground is at Kipp Baltimore’s new school site at the old Walbrook High School in the Greater Rosemont neighborhood of west Baltimore. The renovation was made possible through a donation from Charlie Scheeler and in partnership with national nonprofit organization Heart of America.
The space will honor Scheeler’s mother, Mary Katherine Scarborough, who was an educator and native of West Baltimore.
