An undercover officer was shot and killed by another officer during a shooting at a police station in 2016. Now detective Jacai Colson's family has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit.

The family is suing officer Taylor Krauss as well as Prince George's County, they are asking for more than $75,000 in damages and have requested a jury trial.

Colson was killed by friendly fire on March 13, 2016 after prosecutors say 24-year-old Michael Ford opened fire in front of the Prince George’s County police station in Landover, prompting officers to return fire.

According to the family's lawsuit, Krauss shot Colson after the Ford was taken into custody. They say Colson held up his badge and identified himself as police just before he was shot.

In July of 2016 a grand jury cleared officer Krauss of any wrongdoing.
