Elon Musk gets permit to work on hyperloop in D.C.

He just recently launched a car into space, now Elon Musk is one step closer to bringing a high-speed transportation system to our area.

Musk wants to build a hyperloop tunnel system between New York City and Washington, D.C. Musk says with the hyperloop it would take you just 29 minutes to get from one city to the other.

Now his tunnel-digging firm, The Boring Company has gotten a permit for preparation and early excavation work at a possible hyperloop station in northeast D.C. along New York Avenue.

Governor Larry Hogan has given Musk the green light to do some digging in Maryland. Back in October Hogan gave his approval for The Boring Company to dig under a 10-mile stretch of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. It's not clear if that has started.

The hyperloop is different from the maglev project. That's a state project that involves building a high-speed train that would run just between Baltimore and D.C.
