56-year-old inmate killed in Hagerstown prison assault

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Maryland State Police Homicide Unit are continuing their investigation into an assault that resulted in the death of a Maryland prison inmate.

The inmate, who has been identified as 56-year-old Ronnie Harris, was found unresponsive on a housing tier Wednesday night at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown. Harris was transported to a hospital and died around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

His body has been transported to the District of Columbia Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine the true cause of death.

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigations Unit are assisting Maryland State Police with this investigation.
