Shootout at Oxon Hill Giant Food leaves security guard, theft suspect dead

OXON HILL, Md. — Two people are dead following a shootout between an alleged theft suspect and store security guard.

It happened around 10:25am Friday at the Giant Food on Audrey Lane, in Oxon Hill.

Prince George's County Police say an armed guard working at the store observed a woman stealing.

When he went to confront the woman about it, she reportedly pulled a gun from a backpack, and began shooting.

Despite being hit, the guard was able to return fire striking the suspect.

The guard passed away on scene, while the suspect later died at a local hospital.

Police have not released either of their names.

The incident follows two recent shootings involving store security guards in Baltimore City.
