ELDERSBURG, Md. — A woman was killed after her SUV was hit by an alleged reckless driver in Carroll County.

It happened on April 20, around 11:30 pm.

That's when Sheriff's deputy Kyle Hesler noticed a man speeding on Liberty Road in Eldersburg.

The driver reportedly refused to stop when Hesler tried pulling him over, prompting a chase.

Hesler eventually lost sight of the speeding car, until a few minutes later when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck an SUV head-on.

The SUV driver, 22-year-old Kayla Rodriguez-Garcia, of Randallstown, died on scene. Her passenger and the unidentified speeding driver sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating the deputy's involvement to determine whether all laws and procedures were followed during the chase.
