ELDERSBURG, Md. — A woman was killed after her SUV was hit by an alleged reckless driver in Carroll County.

It happened on April 20, around 11:30 pm.

That's when Sheriff's deputy Kyle Hesler saw a man speeding by on Liberty Road in Eldersburg.

The driver reportedly refused to stop when Hesler tried pulling him over, prompting a brief chase.

Hesler quickly lost sight of the speeding car, until it crashed prior to the Liberty Reservoir.

A good Samaritan alerted Hesler that the fleeing driver struck an oncoming SUV driven by 22-year-old Kayla Rodriguez-Garcia, of Randallstown.

Garcia died on scene. Her passenger and the unidentified speeding driver sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators have since released dashboard and body-worn camera footageof the incident.

It shows the good Samaritans assisting deputies and medics in their attempt to free an entrapped Rodriguez-Garcia.

The Maryland Attorney General's Office is investigating Hesler's involvement to determine whether all laws and procedures were followed during the pursuit.
