Studies say 14 percent of people in the U.S. can't read.
Here at ABC2, we're working to make sure no child in Baltimore goes without access to books. It's part of our parent company Scripps' "if you give a child a book" campaign.
Employees are bringing in books for the Maryland book bank to help encourage literacy and the ability to provide children with the opportunity to read.
Last year Scripps raised $143,000 for books. Scripps will match our fundraising up to 30,000. That money goes to buying books to give to our chosen charity. The drive lasts through the end of the month.

And that is not the only way you can help kids in need. As kids get ready to head back to school, ABC2 is working to make sure they are prepared.
We're collecting backpacks, notebooks, pens and all the essentials for the PMJ Foundation's Back 2 School Supply Drive.
