It's going to cost you a bit more to check your bags on United Airlines flights.

The airline has raised its prices for first bags from $25 to $30 and second bags from $35 to $40.

The price hike impacts people on flights in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

United says the increase will allow it to invest in what it calls its "overall customer experience."

Passengers with mileage-plus premiere status in United's loyalty program and customers who buy their tickets with an eligible mileage-plus credit card will still be able to check their bags for free.

Last week, JetBlue announced it was also raising the price of check luggage by $5 a bag.
