Donating to charity? Beware of scammers trying to take advantage of your kindness.
Charities may try to reach you through email, phone and face-to-face contact. Before making contributions, there's some precautions you'll want to take so you don't get scammed.
Check the organization
- Contact the Better Business Bureau
- Research the organization online
Check accepted payment methods
- Use caution if sending cash or prepaid cards
- Only provide credit and debit card information if organization is credible
