Maryland comptroller Peter Franchot is warning Marylanders of a social media scam.
He says a scammer has been contacting victims saying they can get a large sum of money for a small fee.
The scam looks legitimate because the scammer is using logos from the Comptroller of Maryland's office and the IRS.
Comptroller Franchot says these messages are scams and that his office and the IRS would never contact people through social media sites.
