Chick-fil-a urges diners to put away cellphones

Posted

Could you get through a whole meal without reaching for your cellphone?

At participating Chick-fil-a restaurants around the country, you could get free ice cream if you do.

The company says more than 150 restaurants are putting out "cellphone coops" to encourage families to drop their phones in and ignore them while sharing a meal.

A Chick-fil-a spokesperson said the idea came from a Georgia franchise owner.

He created the boxes for each table at his restaurant, and challenged customers to put the phones in the box and keep them there throughout the meal.

If the entire table completes the challenge, they'll all get a free Icedream dessert.

So far, no restaurants in Baltimore are doing the challenge, but that may change next week, a spokesman said.
