A new Starbucks will open its doors for an exclusive preview in east Baltimore Thursday.
The location at 1812 Ashland Avenue at the Science and Technology Park at Johns Hopkins is Starbucks' first store in east Baltimore.
The store is part of the company's national initiative to create job opportunities for youth and support economic development in some of America's most underserved communities.
In addition to hiring locally, the store will offer a unique in-store job skills training program to local youth using a specially designed classroom right within the store.
This makes it unlike any other store in Baltimore. There are only four other Starbucks locations like this in the country: Ferguson, Mo., Chicago's Southside, central Phoenix, Queens in New York City.
Starbucks plans to open these stores in at least 15 communities across the U.S. by 2018.
The store will also feature product from Baltimore's very own Midnite Confection's Cupcakery, a local woman and minority-owned business.
Investing in businesses like Midnite Confections is an essential part of this national program.
The media preview will feature remarks from Starbucks leadership, local youth and Midnite Confection's Cupcakery.
It begins at 9 a.m at 1812 Ashland Ave.
The store is opening Friday, March 17.
