(WMAR) - State officials are warning the public of an extortion scam.

The Drug Enforcement Administration says scammers are contacting people by phone and posing as DEA agents to convince people they've purchased drugs illegally.

The scammers say they'll take action unless the victims pay a fine.

The DEA says no agent would ever contact someone by phone, demanding money.
