There's a barcode scanning app that can save shoppers endless amounts of money.

It's called ShopSavvy.

Once downloaded onto any smartphone, upon opening ShopSavvy a barcode icon appears in the lower right corner that allows people to scan the barcode of any item, at any store. The app then generates a list of stores and prices where the product can be found.

The best part about using the app, is that it often means one-stop shopping. Since most stores price-match, all users have to do is scan the item, then show their smartphone to the cashier to get the sticker price lowered to the cheapest match found at another store.

If the store doesn't price-match, shoppers can always buy the product from the store they know has the lowest price. Here's the app performed at three different stores that do price-match: Target, Best Buy and Toys 'R' Us.

One woman saved $16 on two out of four items. The other woman had just one item in her cart, but even she saved $8 by scanning it and using the app to price-match.

Most stores will also price-match online competitors, like Amazon. The buyer just has to make sure they're not comparing the prices to a third party retailer. For example, if price-matching with Amazon, the person shopping needs to make sure the lowest price on an item is actually shipped and sold by Amazon, as opposed to an independent seller on Amazon.
