The bookstore chain says Demos Parneros was fired for violating a company policy.
There's no word on which one.
The company did say his termination had nothing to do with financial reporting or potential fraud.
There will be no severance for Parneros and he will be removed from the board right away.
A leadership group will steer the company until it finds a new CEO.
