Five elementary school students were sent to the hospital with minor injuries after their school bus hit a tractor-trailer Monday morning, and now the bus driver is facing charges.

The crash happened around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Route 136 and Route 22. Investigators say the bus carrying Churchville Elementary School students was driving north on Route 136 just before crossing Route 22 when it rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was stopped.

The driver later told investigators that she was looking in the bus mirror talking to a child, and when she looked back at the road, she saw the tractor-trailer but was unable to stop before crashing into it. The driver, Courtney Renee Vaughn, 41, is now being charged with failure to control speed to avoid a collision.

Five Churchville Elementary School students, as well as Vaughn, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Officials are still investigating this incident.
