Suspect in custody, child safe after hours long barricade in Baltimore

Baltimore Police say a suspect is in custody after an hours long barricade situation in southwest Baltimore Wednesday.

The situation started Wednesday around 10 a.m. when the warrant apprehension task force arrived in the 1900 block of Harman Avenue to serve an arrest warrant on a a charge of second-degree burglary out of Baltimore County.

When police approached the suspect, he had a young child in his arms, told officers he had a weapon, then ran into the house. Police believe the suspect is armed with a handgun.

"We are very hopeful that we can resolve this peacefully," Smith said.

By 3:45 p.m., the suspect had walked the small child out of the house then retreated back inside. 

By 6:15 p.m., the situation had come to a peaceful close and the suspect was in custody.

While the barricade was ongoing, police asked people to avoid the area of Harman Avenue and Carroll Street.
